The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region is mandated by the Security Council to lead, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of national and regional commitments under the Peace, Security and Cooperation (PSC) Framework. The Office provides strategic coordination of international support, particularly for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda, to promote accountability. Through the exercise of the Secretary-General’s good offices, the Special Envoy works to strengthen relations among signatory States, revitalize regional economic integration, and promote the free movement of goods and people, advancing justice and shared prosperity across the Great Lakes region.
