The United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB) completed its Security Council mandate on 31 December 2014 and transferred its responsibilities to the UN Country Team consisting of agencies, funds and programmes, based on the UN Development Assistance Framework, known as UNDAF.

Burundi human rights records discussed this week in Geneva

7 October 2014 - The UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is meeting in Geneva from 7 to 31 October. During this session, the Committee will review the human rights situation of six countries, including Burundi.

Other countries in the agenda are Sri Lanka, Haiti, Malta, Montenegro and Israel. The above are among the 168 States Parties to the ICCPR, which is one of the main international human rights treaties. They are required to submit regular reports to the Committee of 18 international independent experts.

Aside the reports submitted by the Governments, the Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.
