Closure of UNMHA

The United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) was established on 16 January 2019 pursuant to Security Council resolution 2452 (2019) to support the implementation of the Hudaydah Agreement in Yemen. Its mandate concluded on 31 March 2026, and United Nations support to peace efforts in Yemen continues under the leadership of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY).

UNMHA's Head of Mission briefs the Security Council

On 15 October 2024, UNMHA Head of Mission, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Michael Beary, briefed the Security Council in closed consultations. warning of rising tensions in Hudaydah due to regional escalations. He highlighted the fragile stability and the recent airstrikes threatening key infrastructure in Hudaydah governorate. Indicating that Hudaydah’s ports, crucial for millions of Yemenis, are operational but at risk from further escalation. UNMHA`s Head of Mission called for urgent de-escalation and international support to safeguard humanitarian efforts.
