HUDAYDAH, 21 June 2022— UNMHA Head of Mission Major General (retd) MichaelBearyconcluded a week-long visit to New York last week, where he delivered his first in-person brief to thesecuritycouncil.
While in New York, Maj. Gen.Bearyengaged with security council representativesfrom the permanent members of thecouncil,and fromIndia, Ireland, the UAE, and Norway.
Healsometthe Yemen Ambassador to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, whom he briefed on the activities of the Mission and stressed the importance of working together with the parties to address challenges and advance critical issues such as mine action.
Speaking during his visit, Maj. Gen. Beary said the Mission was working to expand its monitoring to access pockets of instability in the Southern districts of the Governorate and highlighted that the Mission had been able to increase its routine patrols to the ports of Hudaydah, As Salif and Ra Isa to support the maintenance of their civilian character.
