Hudaydah, 18 April 2023 – UNMHA’s Head of Mission and Co-chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee Major General (rtd) Michael Beary briefed the Security Council on the situation in Hudaydah in a closed session yesterday during the Security Council briefing on Yemen, which included briefings from the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, and the Acting Director of the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Ms Ghada Mudawi.

Maj. Gen Beary briefed on the activities of the Mission, including recent progress towards increasing UNMHA’s monitoring in the southern districts of Hudaydah. He reminded the Council of the devastating impact that landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to have on the civilian population of Hudaydah.

Maj. Gen. Beary assured the Council of UNMHA’s commitment to continue engaging the parties to explore effective coordination mechanisms that can contribute to the UN's collective efforts toward stability and peace in Yemen.
