HUDAYDAY, 28 February 2022 — UNMHA Head of Mission Major General Michael Beary concluded a week-long regional visit to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan today.

The visit follows a series of intensive consultations with the parties and a range of interlocutors in Hudaydah and the other parts of Yemen since his arrival in January 2022.

In Riyadh, Maj.Gen. Beary met with the co-chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) Major General Muhammad Musleh Eidah and senior Saudi military officials and commanders. He also held discussions with Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jaber. In Abu Dhabi, he met with representatives from the UAE Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deliberations centred on ways of intensifying the Mission's monitoring efforts to ensure the demilitarization of Hudaydah's ports and the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid. Maj. Gen. Beary strongly reiterated the importance of maintaining the civilian nature of the ports and preventing further escalation to protect the people of Hudaydah.

Maj. Gen. Beary also held in-depth discussions with the P5 member countries, to whom he highlighted the importance of their continued support of the Mission's mandate, especially following the shift of the military landscape.

Maj. Gen.Beary concluded his regional consultations today in Amman, where he met with EU Heads of Missions and the Ambassador of Ireland.
