UNMHA statement on ceasefire violations in the Hudaydah governorate

HUDAYDAH, 29 November 2020 — The Head of the United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) and Chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee, Abhijit Guha, is calling for restraint after a recent upsurge in serious ceasefire violations, including aerial strikes, in the governorate of Hudaydah.

Reports of civilian casualties over the past week, including children, are particularly troubling, he says. “Now is the time to hold fire and stop a cycle of military escalations that will worsen the dire humanitarian situation on the ground.

”UNMHA continues to proactively engage with both parties to the conflict and is making all efforts to ensure an enabling environment for renewed progress.

"I urge both parties to fulfill their obligations and resolve disputes through the appropriate joint mechanisms - not the battlefield. Innocent civilians must be protected,” General Guha says.
