HUDAYDAH, 17 May 2023 – UNMHA's Head of Mission and Co-chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee Major General (rtd) Michael Beary briefed the Security Council today in a closed session during the Security Council briefing on Yemen, which included briefings from the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, and the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)’s Director of Operations and Advocacy Edem Wosornu. 

Maj. Gen. Beary updated the Council on the situation in Hudaydah and the Mission's activities including its sustained monitoring efforts, community engagement initiatives and mine action coordination. He raised alarm over the continued death and injury of civilians by landmines and explosive remnants of war, emphasizing the urgency to prevent continued harm to innocent victims, particularly women and children.

Maj. Gen. Beary concluded by thanking Council members for their continued support of the Mission's mandate.
