On 15 August 2024 UNMHA Head of Mission, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Michael Beary briefed the Security Council in closed consultations, following an open session with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General Hans Grundberg and OCHA’s Director of the Financing and Partnerships Division Lisa Doughten. 

UNMHA Head of Mission reported that his team witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the recent floods on the local population of Hudaydah governorate and echoed calls to support humanitarian response. The situation has been further complicated as the floods swept landmines and explosive remnants of war into previously safe areas, including agricultural lands, posing a severe threat to civilians. UNMHA Head of Mission underscored that amidst heightened regional tensions, UNMHA is redoubling its engagement efforts with both parties within the framework of the RCC de-escalation mechanism.
