The United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) was established on 16 January 2019 pursuant to Security Council resolution 2452 (2019) to support the implementation of the Hudaydah Agreement in Yemen. Bouts of hostilities in residential areas cause concern for Mission

UNMHA is concerned by bouts of troubling hostilities in the Hudaydah governorate over the last few weeks, including aerial strikes and artillery shelling in residential areas, that constitute violations of the Stockholm Agreement and have severely impacted the population.

UNMHA deplores the loss and injuries of innocent civilians, including children, during these incidents.

To stop their suffering, the Mission calls on the parties to resume dialogue to cease hostilities in Hudaydah. It is of utmost importance that the joint mechanisms that provide the framework for de-escalation resume their work to prevent such violence and protect the civilians who have borne the brunt of these latest hostilities.

UNMHA continues its efforts to support the parties to come together and fully implement the provisions of the Hudaydah Agreement, while also reminding them of their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
